This article on Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters is a collaboration between Dr Jennifer Cohen and Little Peeps Eats.
Welcome Jen, and congratulations on the launch of the “Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters Blueprint”!
I’m passionate about helping parents of fussy eaters (which is why I started my group), as I understand how frustrating this can be as a parent. Which Is why I am so excited to find out more about Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters Blueprint!
But before we find out about the program, I’d love to find out a little bit more about you.
How did you come to be known as ‘The Fussy Eating Doctor”?
I have been working in the hospital as a Dietitian working with children with cancer for almost 15 years. I then did my PhD focusing on kid eating habits after they finished their cancer treatment. We found that for the kids in remission, their eating habits after treatment were really affected, causing them to become really fussy. We now have a trial underway to improve the fruit and vegetable intake of young survivors of childhood cancer.
While working in the hospital I was also working one-on-one with
families in my own practice and used a lot of my skills and knowledge
with fussy eaters in my private practice. After a while I specialised in
What made you become a Dietitian and Paediatric Nutritionist?
I have always loved food and started my uni career as a Food Technologist. After 2 years I realised I didn’t like chemistry and the whole degree was chemistry based! I had taken some nutrition classes and loved them, so I transferred to a degree in nutrition and dietetics. I am now tutoring at uni the same course that got me interested in nutrition in the first place!
I’ve always wanted to work with families and children and I felt I could make the greatest impact with children. I actually started working with adults with cancer at a large teaching hospital in Sydney but after a few years was lucky to start working in a children’s hospital and have been doing that ever since. Children are amazing, they are so resilient and positive and I love working with them and their families.
Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters Blueprint – say goodbye to to cooking different meals for your family members!
Why did you develop “Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters Blueprint”?
I cannot survive without meal planning. As a busy mum, if I want to get a meal on the table at the end of a crazy day, I need to have done some planning. My youngest is my fussy eater so when I meal plan I need to make sure we are serving meals with a combo of liked and non-liked foods to help my fussy eater learn to like new foods. Meal planning with a fussy eater in the house is so important to help your fussy eater to try new foods. I also knew that many families don’t like meal planning. What I wanted to create a course that helped families with meal planning and also help them to know how to structure meals to help their fussy eater. This is why the Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters Blueprint came about.
Who will it help?
It will help any family who wants their kids/grandkids eating a greater variety of foods. Even if your child isn’t fussy but you find yourself making the same meals repeatedly then this program will help. If you have a fussy eater and want to know how to serve one meal for the family then this program is definitely for you.
Can I be cheeky and ask for a sneak peek of a meal planning tip that is covered?
For you and your tribe Rachel, I am happy to give a sneak peek. One of my main tips for serving meals for your fussy eater is always serve a combination of liked and non-liked foods at each meal.
How does the Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters Blueprint work?
The Meal Planning for Fussy Eaters Blueprint is all online. This means you can watch the videos at your own pace. There are seven modules which are kept short as I know everyone is time poor. The program gives you a step-by-step for how to structure meals, meal plan and meal prep for your family. I also have worksheets you can download to use with the program.
So Jen this all sounds great, but, will my kids actually eat brussel sprouts after I complete this program?
Funnily enough, my children who are OK eaters still won’t eat brussel sprouts! Every kid is different.
Helping a fussy eater can take time and there are lots of pieces to the puzzle. This program is all about how to structure a meal with a fussy eater and to help you to have stress free meals. At the end of the program you will know how to serve one meal for the whole family and how to reduce your stress at mealtimes. Your fussy eater may not eat brussel sprouts at the end of the program but you will know how to confidently serve them to your fussy eater at each meal.
